The Health Care Debate

Have you been following the national health care debate? Maybe you've gotten sick of all the partisan arguing and have lost interest. Whatever side of the political isle you sit on, this process is certainly frustrating. Both sides seem to be at blame. The Democrates seem to be intent on ramming this legislation down our throats and the Republicans seem to just want to thwart anything the Dems are trying to do with no alternative to offer.

What seems to be largely missing from this debate is a discussion of how the health insurance debate reflects on social justice and values. As a Christian, we must ask, "What does God think of this debate?" The third most dominate theme in the Bible is God's concern for the poor and oppressed and His call on us to address social injustice. What would God think of a country like ours that is so wealthy but leaves almost 50 million Americans without health insurance? The Pharmaceuticals and insurance companies are making billions in profit while 50 million people can't even afford insurance? Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, something must be done to reform our health insurance system that is so injust. - Pastor Dan
